"Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." — Matthew 5:10

πŸ“œ  — Malta Christian Persecution & U.S. Implications

Hello friends, and welcome back to AmeriPrayer, where we pray for America and our brothers and sisters in Christ around the world.

Today we're focusing on a deeply concerning story from Malta—and why it matters for Christians in the United States.

1. The Case of Matthew Grech

Matthew Grech, a Christian convert who left a homosexual lifestyle, has faced three years of legal persecution simply for sharing his testimony in a public interview.

He was charged under Malta's so-called "conversion therapy ban", which broadly prohibits any discussion or counseling aimed at changing sexual behavior, even voluntary discussion.

In Grech's case, the law has been weaponized against him for describing how God helped him leave a gay lifestyle—a personal testimony, not therapy.

Grech faces fines and potential prison time, yet the legal battle itself has been punishing, with 12 court hearings over three years, and the verdict delayed twice.

2. The Bigger Picture

The complaint was filed by LGBT activist Silvan Agius, who argued that Grech's testimony offended him personally.

This illustrates a troubling trend: when dissent from cultural norms is treated as a punishable offense.

Grech's legal team emphasizes that the law fails to define "conversion therapy" in any meaningful way, turning personal faith and expression into a potential crime.

3. Implications for the United States

Malta's law is a blueprint for other countries. The U.K., Australia, and several U.S. states have used similar bans on counseling.

While the First Amendment protects free speech and religious expression in the U.S., we must remain vigilant. Counseling bans and aggressive legal campaigns could threaten the rights of Christians to share their beliefs on sexuality and marriage.

4. Faith in the Midst of Trials

Despite ongoing persecution, Grech remains steadfast:

"Jesus said, 'Rejoice when you're being persecuted for my name' [Matthew 5:12]. I stay joyful. I stay patient in trials. I feel at peace."

His perseverance reminds us that God's promises sustain His children, even in the face of unjust prosecution.

5. Prayer for Christian Courage and U.S. Freedom

Let's pray:

"Lord Jesus, strengthen Matthew and all Christians facing persecution.
Protect the freedom to speak Your truth in our nation.
Give courage, patience, and peace to those unjustly opposed.
Help us in America to cherish and defend the freedoms we still enjoy,
and guide us to support brothers and sisters worldwide. Amen."

God bless Matthew,
God bless you,
and God bless America.
